A Family Affair
School’s almost out for summer, and if you’re wondering how you’re going to keep everyone suitably entertained, we’ve got you covered.
Few families have shared a vacation that didn’t include a couple of epic battles—with so many varying interests, it’s often tough to keep the peace. If what you’re searching for is a single destination that can do it all, our truffle-hunting noses have found it: Turkey.
Turkey works particularly well for families, as it seems to have something to please all ages; the vibrant, buzzy capital of Istanbul offers art, architecture, shopping, great hotels and journeys on the Bosphorus—and where else can you pop over to Asia for the afternoon?
In the interior, check out the natural playground of Cappadocia; it’s like a theme park you might expect to find on the moon. Fairytale-like structures and caves dominate the area, and a hot-air ballon trip over the scenery is truly stunning. Quadbike, hike or mountain-bike through the valleys, and head back to your cave hotel at the end of the day.
Round off your time in Turkey on the coast. The Bodrum Peninsula on the Aegean has a great array of tiny towns, villages, coves and beaches to explore. Charter a gulet (a Turkish Yacht) where you can enjoy the lovely temperate waters and cruise undisturbed while enjoying a sundowner after a paddle. We bet everyone will agree on the view.
Anton just got back from spring research in Turkey, and while he didn’t have any little Lynches in tow, he certainly knows how to plan for families.
