Trufflepig Supports The Narwhal

We thought we were getting the Information Age but we stumbled blindly into the Misinformation Age. How did this happen? I can’t answer that question, but I can tell you that it’s NOT because there was too much high quality independent journalism out there.

Which is why Trufflepig will be supporting The Narwhal as part of the Philanthropy initiative in our Hoofprint project, whereby we set aside $80 per trip and 1% of pre-tax profits for charitable donation (see details here). The Narwhal is a unique entity in Canada: an entirely independent, not-for-profit journalism organisation that ‘dives deep to tell stories about Canada’s natural world’. You can read about them in their own words here.

The reason we want to support them is for their mission to bring environmental journalism to the mainstream, as eloquently explained by founder Emma Gilchrist here. They do it with editorial independence and investigative rigour, and they’re not afraid to speak truth to power. I love a good bit of sports journalism as much as the next guy, but I have a feeling it’s those three things that gave the news media the title of the Fourth Estate, rather than gripping coverage of the Superbowl half-time show.

So, thank you to everyone at The Narwhal. We are proud to support you.
