Along D Coast
Turkey has an epic coastline, from the magnificence of the northern wilds along the Black Sea, to the sublime blueness of the Aegean and the wondrous southern coast that hits the undulating Mediterranean. It’s a coastline is to be explored and admired, and there are so many great places to stay it’s hard to choose. Fear not, help is at hand.
The D Group provide two top options. The D-Resort in Göcek and the D-Hotel in Marmaris. Göcek is a wee coastal town in Fethiye, famed for its yacht club, and it serves as a great jumping off point for a gulet trip along the Turquoise Coast. Prior to jumping aboard, some time should be allowed to appreciate the D-Resort, with its excellent rooms overlooking the pool, and wonderful beach restaurant, The Sundowner. Hire one of the hotel’s bikes to explore the cute town, or head to the shore (the hotel owns the town’s only beach, handily).
D-Hotel is on the Datca Peninsula not far from Marmaris, but suitably out on its own to feel like a remote haven. It is a true destination hotel with excellent facilities and its own beaches. It has five of them, to be exact, each with a distinct vibe. There’s a “silent” beach for those seeking quiet, and an “executive” beach with cabañas (for the Executive Club Lounge guests), two of the beaches allow children, and part of the fun is getting a speedboat transfer out to your chosen spot. There are also three pools to choose from. Swimming sartorially has never been such fun, choosing which Speedo for which setting.
You can cruise along the coast here too, in one of the hotel-owned motor-yachts or a 100ft sailing yacht. Maybe head out for a sunset cruise? Or visit one of the virgin islands nearby. The hotel also has a sense of the fun and quirky in the funiculars that run up and down the hillside, saving your breath after all those sundowners. Thank goodness, otherwise your trip to the coast would have been such hard work.
Anton has found the reception of his finest Speedos on the streets of London to be lukewarm at best. It seems the British just don’t have an appreciation for the finer things in life quite like the Turkish do.
