The Year of Brazil
Year is probably an understatement—decade is more like it. Thanks to the upcoming World Cup and Olympic Games, tourism in Brazil is hotter than the Rio sun, and we’re getting a refresher on the coolest destinations.
Based in London but with a taste for Cachaça that keeps him overseas frequently, Anton Lynch is our extraordinary Latin America Trip Planner. Tomorrow he sets out to see a trio of Brazilian regions, where he’ll gather up his favourite new truffles and weave them into Trufflepig’s custom trips.
One of the joys of Brazil is the variety and contrast—it’s a huge country, with plenty of different regions to offer. First up on this research trip is the Pantanal, which Anton describes as “Amazon meets the outback”. A wetland area with an incredibly diverse animal and plant population, our favourite British adventurer will be checking over his shoulder frequently for the eunectes notaeus. Next he will visit Minas Gerais, historically known for gold and gem mining, and now for its art and cultural scene. Finally, in perhaps the most difficult and taxing portion of his trip, Anton will visit the beaches of Bahia and stay at Uxua, a collection of gorgeous casitas which he will bravely endure (for the greater good, of course).
If you’re thinking it’s time to plan a little Carnival of your own, now’s the time to call. When he returns, Anton will have the freshest info (and the most polished samba skills) on the block. Keep your eyes on the Sounder for all of his finds.
Amy Smithers is our Sounder Editor with the scoop on all the research comings and goings at Trufflepig this week.
