A Home in the Trees
Dreamt up by owners Kent and Britta, Treehotel is a year-round Northern outpost in the Swedish countryside, surrounded by unspoiled nature as far as the eye can see and the lush Lule river valley. They are the same couple who run Britta’s Pensionat next door; an inviting cluster of 1930-50s inspired rooms that feel like you’re staying at your Swedish grandma’s house. A peculiar place stuck in a bygone era that creates a notable contrast to the modern forest structures.
Carrying names like Dragonfly and UFO, each of the seven architect-designed tree rooms is unique, and almost all of them give way to stunning views of the surrounding countryside and endless Northern sky, which depending on the season could be brimming with Northern Lights or basking in the midnight sun.
Despite its rather remote setting just South of the Arctic Circle, it’s surprisingly easy to reach the Treehotel. Several daily flights connect Stockholm with Luleå, from where it’s about an hour’s drive; while nearby Boden provides an efficient rail link to Kiruna in Lapland.
Researching furiously in Scandinavia this past few years, Claudia‘s been discovering that the region is two regions: Summer and Winter. Whether it’s Father Christmas or midnight sun you’re in search of, give her a shout.
