BC Wild: The ultimate Canadian adventure brought to you by Trufflepig & Best Made Co.
We’ve once again teamed up with our friends at Best Made to stage their latest catalog shoot and test their awesome new gear. Following on the heels of our Brazilian adventure we felt it was time to showcase our own backyard – British Columbia’s backcountry.
The Setting
The British Columbia backcountry is a relatively bland way to describe an area of wilderness so large, varied and spectacular that it almost defies description. This includes the snow capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies, the rugged and pristine coastal fjords and archipelagos, and everything in between. British Columbia isn’t just the backdrop, it’s virtually a character in your adventure.
Where to begin
The centrepiece of our offering is the tractless wilds of the Great Bear Rainforest. Located at the southern edge of this incredible part of Canada is Nimmo Bay. This is where we sent the boys from Best Made to field test their newest gear and shoot their catalogue and we think it’s the perfect place to kick off your adventure. The absolute minimum amount of time we suggest at Nimmo Bay is 3 nights, though even with a week there’s more than enough to keep you busy: glacier heli – hiking, heli-fishing (reel, fly and salt water), whale watching, sea kayaking and bear tracking on foot, to mention a few.
Putting your own adventure together
Beyond a few days at Nimmo Bay, this very much becomes your own adventure to design:
- From Nimmo, connect with an incredible antique boat and take a private expedition up the BC coast looking for whales and Spirit Bears, all the way up to Kitamat.
- Heading into the interior, you can float down the Atnarko River dodging Grizzlies as they gorge themselves on salmon.
- Play cowboy in the heart of BC at Siwash Ranch.
- Mountain biking in the South Chilcotin Mountains, accessing amazing singletrack by helicopter or riding deep into remote mountain valleys on horseback.
These are remote locations and there are complex logistics involved, so costs can add up fast. Thoughtful planning and local ground support are essential, especially when you start adding in helicopters and floatplanes and the like. A trip like this is expensive, but more than worth it. And we are here to help. Whether it’s for 2 people or a group of 12, we can help you create your own personally curated Canadian Adventure.
