A meal best enjoyed with sand at your feet
Photography: Greg Sacks

On My Plate: Quirimbas

While my lens is zoomed in on this amazing plate of fresh Mozambican crab, your imagination can zoom out and picture the rest of the scene. Cloudless skies, calm seas lapping the shore, ocean breezes ruffling my linen shirt and a toothy grin stretched wide across my face.

Where: Londo Lodge, Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique

What: Like eating berries straight from the bush, seafood is best when served by the ocean, caught just hours before. While there were salads, breads, cutlery and other accompaniments present on the table, I ignored them all, rolled up my sleeves and jumped fists first into this crab. And then washed it all down with a bottle of crisp South African Sauvignon Blanc from Boschendal Estates. There’s nothing like a local meal eaten miles away from home.

Greg Sacks considered a fresh catch from the Toronto Harbour, but decided that it wasn’t advisable. He now waits patiently for his next seaside visit.
