On My Plate: Sausalito
Why is it that there never seems to be enough guacamole on the table? With the possible exception of a ‘shared’ basket of french fries, no other dish seems to disappear so quickly.
Where: Salsalito Taco Shop, Sausalito, California
What: There were other plates of other very delicious things on this table. But my memory only has eyes for the guacamole. Holy. You’ve got to love the avocado for its unbridled ability to dance essentially alone (with all due respect to bits of onion, tomato, garlic, a dash of lime, some cilantro, and salt & pepper to taste) and still be a compelling dish. So smooth, so silky. I figure it wins on the technicality that it’s a fruit, not a vegetable as we so often assume. Then again, what would guacamole be without tortilla chips? Messy.
Charlie Scott is known around the office to turn every unsuspecting basket of french fries into a ‘shared’ basket.
