100 Things We Love: Part 3

Today we continue our countdown of 100 things we love, in celebration of our 100th Sounder newsletter, going out to all of your inboxes this week. Here we cover number 60 down to 41.

60. Our National Geographic “Tour of a Lifetime”—We’re not going to lie, it’s nice to see our name in lights after all the work we’ve put in. It’s especially nice when our name is next to an incredible trip that we’re rightly proud of; exploring with the San bushmen of the Kalahari, then shooting across the Makgadikgadi Pans on ATVs. Sign us up.

59. A helicopter ride over Milford Sound—There are some landscapes that deserve a bird’s eye view, and this spot on New Zealand’s south island is one of them. Plus you’ll get dropped off to hike along the way.

58. Silverback gorillas—In the forests of Rwanda, get within just a few metres of some of our closest relatives. This is the trip that awe is made of.

57. Essaouira, Morocco—Morocco’s cities can be frenetic and overwhelming. That’s why we have a special soft spot for this oceanside gem that combines European, Arab and Berber influences into a gorgeous and relaxed town ripe for wandering.

56. Antigua’s colonial architecture—Our own Charlie Scott has a major architecture addiction, but we’ve never seen him return as excited as he did from his trip to Guatemala. Even the rest of us can appreciate Antigua’s picturesque charm.

55. Edenhouse—This tiny New Zealand hotel’s big-hearted owners baked it from scratch. With just three rooms on an expansive green property, Eden is an apt descriptor indeed.

54. Boating down the Thames—Rowing through the UK’s iconic hamlets along the Thames with a pint in hand? It doesn’t get more British than this.

53. Domaine de Murtoli—On the wild island of Corsica, Jack discovered this incredible property, with villas spread out over a vast acreage offering the utmost privacy, not to mention gorgeous views.

52. Hotel Esprit Saint Germain—It’s one of Paris’ most elegant hotels, and one of our personal favourites for a jaunt in the City of Light.

51. This German guy—So maybe this has nothing to do with travel. So what? We lost a good half hour of productivity when this was passed around the office, so congratulations to this one very chilly (and very stupid) gentleman.

50. Jodhpur—Known as India’s blue city, Jodhpur is one of our top places to explore in Rajasthan, not least thanks to the gorgeous Raas hotel.

49. Toronto—Are you surprised? You shouldn’t be. Toronto is the home of the very first Trufflepig office (before we started getting all international). Fitting, since its nickname is Hogtown.

48. Hot air ballooning in Cappadocia—Remember number 59? This is another one of those landscapes that can only be truly grasped (and appreciated) from above. If you’ve always dreamed of a hot air balloon ride, this is our pick for the best of the bunch.

47. Dressing alike—They say it happens by accident. The rest of us in the office don’t believe that for a second. Morning calls for wardrobe coordination were most certainly made, and we’re ok with that.

46. Research trips—Let’s be honest: we work hard for you, sure, but we can’t deny the perks of a job that involves us hitting some of the coolest roads on the planet. This year’s been one of our worldliest yet, and it’s only going to get better in 2013.

45. Le Sirenuse—Perched at a perfect vantage point along Italy’s Amalfi Coast, we love Le Sirenuse for its incredible views and unbeatable luxury.

44. Blue-footed boobies—These brightly-coloured Ecuador natives are just one of a million reasons to get yourself down to the Galapagos Islands tout de suite.

43. Trufflepig chocolates—We bow down to the genius chocolatiers at Hagensborg. We used to keep boxes of these tasty bars in the office to give to clients, but ran into a mid-afternoon snacking problem that ultimately had to be stopped.

42. Pools—Hotel pools might be one of the biggest perks of our travels. We’re not talking your average, rectangular splash pad; this summer we rounded up some of our favourite unique spots to take a dip.

41. Scaling Sugarloaf Mountain—On a recent visit to Brazil, Anton scoffed at the cable cars running up to Rio de Janeiro’s most famous landmark, choosing instead to use his own hands and feet. We couldn’t be more proud.
